Position Summary
The Engineering Design Director will lead the design strategy, coordination, and execution across multiple infrastructure and building projects in Malaysia. This leadership role requires deep multidisciplinary technical knowledge, strong stakeholder engagement, and the ability to manage both in-house design teams and external consultants. The role will ensure that all design deliverables meet project objectives, comply with local regulations, and align with construction feasibility and efficiency targets.
Key Responsibilities
Direct and manage the design process across all engineering disciplines (civil, structural, MEP, etc.)
Develop and implement design strategies that support constructability, cost efficiency, and quality outcomes
Review and approve design deliverables and ensure alignment with project specifications and regulatory requirements
Lead coordination between design teams, project managers, construction teams, and subcontractors
Oversee the integration of BIM and digital engineering tools into project workflows
Manage design risks, design changes, and quality assurance processes
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to internal engineering teams
Support tendering processes, including review of design inputs and technical proposals
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical)
Minimum 15 years of experience in design leadership roles across infrastructure and building projects
Proven ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary design teams
Strong knowledge of Malaysian building codes and international design standards
Effective leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in digital design tools and BIM platforms
Fluent in English; Bahasa Malaysia is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or Chartered/Professional Engineer status
Experience in large-scale transport, utilities, or industrial developments
Background in design-build or EPC projects
Familiarity with sustainability design frameworks (LEED, GreenRE, etc.)
